Baton Rouge Behavioral Health Hospital focuses on providing care for those with mental illnesses & dual diagnosis (substance abuse and behavioral health issues co-occurring). We are a 53-bed facility, staffed with nurses, psychiatrists, doctors, and administrative staff who are ready to serve the people of southern Louisiana and Mississippi.

We believe that the road to wellness can be navigated by providing caring staff, peaceful environments, and engaging activities to our patients. Depending on the needs of the patient, treatment may include individual therapy, group counseling, and educational sessions, among other programs and activities.

FAQs

  • 4-5 Changes of casual clothing and undergarments.  No drawstrings.  We have laundry supplies available to launder items.
  • BBH is not responsible for lost or damaged items.
  • Shoes with no laces (comfortable slip-ons are preferable), shower shoes.   Shoes should be weather appropriate.  Shoe laces are not permitted on the unit unless there is a doctor’s order.
  • Jacket or coat
  • “New, unopened” toiletries, hygiene products.  No mirrors or glass bottles.
  • Tobacco products must be unopened and are kept at nurses station.  Lighters and matches are prohibited.  There are designated times and areas for smoking.
  • Disposable razors will be locked up and used with supervision.
  • ID and insurance cards.
  • Small amount of cash (no more than $50-$60) for tobacco products or toiletries.  We do not use debit cards or cash checks.
  • No caffeine or sugar allowed.  This hospital is caffeine free and sugar free.
  • Everything brought in is searched and inventoried by staff.
  • All valuables are locked in a safe until discharge. This includes, phones, money, credit cards, ID, etc.
  • Patients are given a patient “contact” number to be able to receive incoming phone calls.  Caller must have contact number for patient to receive the call.
  • Phone calls should be no more than 10 minutes in duration.
  • Phone calls are made during non-group and non-physician/CNPs rounding times.
  • Phone calls can be made or received between the hours of 7 am to 10 pm.
